Finally a water tracking system that is reliable and has flexibility in options. This system allows for, not only monitoring, but taking action with automatic valve closures for catastrophic leak situations; all using your cell phone! The unit works on a Z-Wave smart home control network.
Our WaterTrackerSM Zwave series would work on any Z-Wave hub installation but we recommend the Samsung SmartThings hub (we stock the F-HUB-US-2 version). The mobile app that is offered with Samsung SmartThings offers plenty of flexibility including:
- Current water flow or no-flow in your home
- Current flow rate
- Historical data including a 24 hour graph, 7 day graph, and 4 week graph of water usage
- Indication of severity of leak or usage (small flow: toilet running or high flow: Garden Hose left running)
- Total Gallons used with time stamps and consumption reports
- Temperature Alarms to warn of freeze possibility
- Manual or Automatic Valve Closure (alarms may be set to activate auto function)
- Back up battery for power outages
With the optional shut off valve, we supply a valve that is the same size as the water meter and it allows you to see the status of the valve (open/closed) as well as change the current status (open to closed or closed to open). Through the SmartApps tab on the phone app you can also create custom settings that will alert you via the app, a text message, or both. These alerts can be based on:
- Flow rate
- Continuous flow
- Total flow
- Time during the day (Ex. If you have 5 GPM between 1AM and 6AM)
Along with receiving an alert, you can choose to shut down the Shut off Valve automatically (if valve was chosen when purchased).
The system also has a Water & Temperature Sensor that can be purchased separately (see accessories). These would be placed in areas where there’s a concern for leaking and/or freezing (ex. Water Tank, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, etc.). When water is detected, you will be alerted through the app, text message, or both (depending on what you’ve programmed) and you have the option of automatically or manually shutting the valve (if you’ve purchased the valve option).
The system includes an NSF 61 certified lead free brass or plastic meter with pulse output (includes couplings, for horizontal installation with face up). The meter measures and reports water use in gallons. The interface is simply wired to the meter and all data collected is sent via wireless transmission to the Zwave hub. Never before has a system been so user friendly and utilized a phone app for the ultimate in convenience. Monitoring your water use will lead to savings in water bills and the automatic valve can save thousands of dollars from damage created by undetected leaks.
IMPORTANT NOTE: ZWave Hub REQUIRED for this system to work. Smart Things strongly recommended. If you don't add it to your purchase here, you will need to have it for your system to work!

The Meter works great. Install is easy. I had PEX so it was very simple to install. Used SharkBite so it was a matter of cut the PEX and Slip the Meter in place.
That being said. The SmartThings integration is complicated and took me many tries to get working. This took 5X longer then the install of the meter its self.
I have writen my own SmartA Apps in SmartThings and I still struggled to get it installed properly and working.
I do have it working and reporting. However it was not easy.
If you have never logged into the Programmer interface of SmartThings I think this is over your head and I'd wait until Flows can get SmartThings to publish this as an approved App.
I have one Complaint, the App only has 24 Hour, 7 Days and 4 weeks of tracking. It does not offer a year's tracking which i think is lame. This should be added to their code. I think i may try and write my own version of this so I can track a year's usage.
So the Meter is good, easy to install, works great. The SmartThings integration is a pain the rear. And it's missing a years worth of tracking.
This water meter has already paid for itself and I have had it installed for a week. How? Well, after easily pairing with homeseer and loading a homeseer plugin I discovered that my water softener was recharging every other night, using 50 gallons of water. This is on a private well that only produces about 200 gallons of water a day. Looking into the water softener I found that the hardness of the water was entered at 5x the actual number and fixing that will reduce it's water consumption by a factor of 5. So - that is why I bought this - to figure out why my well would occasionally run dry, and now I know. It's a beautiful thing. I do wish that I had ordered the brass one - plastic is working, but tweaking the fasteners down tight was a nervous operation....
